Rules and Regulations

1. Team Composition

  • Each team must have 7 players on the field, including a goalkeeper.
  • A team may begin a match with a minimum of 5 players. If a team cannot field 5 players within 10 minutes of the scheduled start time, they forfeit the match.
  • Teams can have up to 15 players on their roster. Substitutions are unlimited and can be made during stoppages in play with the referee’s permission.

2. Player Eligibility

  • All players must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Each player must sign a waiver before participating in the league.
  • Players may only be listed on one team’s roster. Switching teams after the season starts is not allowed unless approved by the league administration.

3. Match Duration

  • A match consists of two 25-minute halves, with a 5-minute halftime break.
  • Matches are played on a reduced-size field (approximately 60-70 yards long and 40-50 yards wide).
  • No stoppage time will be added except at the referee’s discretion for major delays (e.g., injury, weather).

4. Equipment

  • All players must wear proper soccer attire, including shin guards.
  • Players must wear matching team jerseys, with each player’s number clearly visible.
  • Goalkeepers must wear a jersey that distinguishes them from outfield players.
  • Only rubber cleats or turf shoes are permitted on the field. Metal cleats are prohibited.
  • The official game ball is a size 5 soccer ball. The home team is responsible for providing the game ball.

5. Substitutions

  • Substitutions are unlimited and can be made during any stoppage in play.
  • Players must enter and exit the field from the halfway line and may only substitute with the referee’s approval.

6. Kickoff and Restart Rules

  • The game starts with a kickoff from the center circle. The ball must move forward for play to begin.
  • After each goal, the game is restarted with a kickoff by the opposing team.
  • All opposing players must stand at least 5 yards away from the ball during a kickoff.

7. Offside Rule

  • No offside rule is applied in 7v7 play.

8. Free Kicks and Set Pieces

  • All free kicks are indirect, unless stated otherwise by the referee.
  • Players must stand at least 5 yards away from the ball during free kicks and corner kicks.
  • Penalty kicks are taken from a spot 8 yards from the goal line.
  • A throw-in is awarded when the entire ball crosses the sideline. The ball must be thrown in from behind the head with both feet on the ground.

9. Goalkeeper Rules

  • Goalkeepers may use their hands within the penalty area (approx. 10 yards from the goal line).
  • Goalkeepers are not allowed to handle the ball outside the penalty area.
  • After catching or receiving the ball, goalkeepers must distribute it within 6 seconds.
  • The goalkeeper cannot pick up the ball if a teammate intentionally passes it back with their feet (same as in 11v11 soccer).

10. Scoring

  • A goal is scored when the entire ball crosses the goal line.
  • There are no direct free kicks, meaning goals must be scored from regular play or from an indirect set-piece after at least one touch by another player.

11. Fouls and Misconduct

  • The referee will call fouls for kicking, tripping, pushing, holding, or unsportsmanlike behavior.
  • Slide tackles are prohibited for the safety of all players. Infractions will result in an indirect free kick for the opposing team.
  • Yellow cards are given for reckless play or unsporting behavior. A player receiving two yellow cards in one game will be shown a red card and ejected from the game.
  • Red cards are given for serious fouls, violent conduct, or repeated offenses. A player who receives a red card must leave the field immediately and cannot be replaced.
    • Players receiving a red card will be suspended for at least one game, with additional suspensions at the league’s discretion.

12. Penalties

  • A penalty kick is awarded for fouls or handballs committed by a defending player inside their own penalty area.
  • Penalty kicks are taken from a spot 8 yards from the goal.

13. Tiebreakers and Standings

  • In case of a tie at the end of regulation, no extra time is played. The game will end in a tie during regular season play.
  • For playoff games, tied matches will go straight to a penalty shootout, with each team taking 5 penalty kicks. If still tied after 5 kicks, the shootout continues in a sudden-death format.
  • Standings will be determined by a points system:
    • 3 points for a win
    • 1 point for a tie
    • 0 points for a loss
  • If teams are tied in points, the following tiebreakers will apply:
    1. Goal differential
    2. Goals scored
    3. Head-to-head result
    4. Coin toss

14. Weather Policy

  • In case of inclement weather (heavy rain, lightning, etc.), games may be delayed or rescheduled.
  • If a match is canceled due to weather and less than 20 minutes have been played, the game will be replayed in full. If 20 minutes or more have been played, the result at the time of cancellation will stand.

15. Sportsmanship and Conduct

  • All players are expected to demonstrate good sportsmanship and respect for opponents, referees, and league officials.
  • Verbal abuse, fighting, or threatening behavior will result in disciplinary action, which could include suspensions or expulsion from the league.
  • Any concerns about refereeing or player conduct should be addressed with league officials, not with the referees during or after the game.
